Focus and Scope

Mathematica Scandinavica is a peer-reviewed journal in mathematics that has been published regularly since 1953. Mathematica Scandinavica is run on a non-profit basis by the five mathematical societies in Scandinavia. It is the aim of the journal to publish high quality mathematical articles of moderate length.

Mathematica Scandinavica publishes 2 volumes a year. Each volume comprises 2 separate issues. Thus, 4 issues of 160 pages each are published annually.

All back volumes are available in paper and online from 1953. There is a free access to online articles more than five years old. Access to more recent online articles requires a subscription.  The journal operates a green open access policy for author self-archiving.

Peer Review Process

Authors may submit manuscripts for publication to any member of the editorial committee.  Papers sent to the journal office or coordinating editor, will be assigned to a member of the editorial committee.

Submission of manuscripts implies that the work described has not been published before (except in the form of an abstract or as part of a published lecture, review or thesis), that it is not under consideration for publication elsewhere and that, if and when the manuscript is accepted for publication, the authors agree to automatic transfer of the copyright to the publisher.

Submissions are initially screened to check whether they fit within in the author guidelines and the scope of the journal.  If this is the case, they are then sent to one or more experts in the area of the paper to obtain a report on the article's quality and suitability for publication.

For papers published in 2018, the median time from submission to a final decision was 7 months.

Author self-archiving

Authors of accepted articles are permitted to post electronic versions of their paper, either before (pre-print) or after peer review (post-print/accepted manuscript), on the author's personal website, the author's institutional repository and non-commercial preprint servers such as arXiv.org, provided that each posting is accompanied by a text stating that the final version of the article is published in Mathematica Scandinavica (with volume and page numbers, once available).

Self-archiving of the final typeset version (publisher's version/final pdf) of the article is not permitted.

Publication Frequency

Mathematica Scandinavica publishes 2 volumes a year. Each volume comprises 2 separate issues. Thus, 4 issues of 160 pages each are published annually.  The journal aims to publish the first issue of a given year by the end of March.  Subsequent issues that year follow at intervals of approximately 3 months.
